Fashion

The model in the foreground of the fashion show wears a knee-length, asymmetrical black dress on a runway illuminated by floor-mounted strip lights. Behind her stand other models in long evening gowns—one black and one yellow. On either side of the runway, the audience is visible filming the event on their phones in the elegant interior, which features stone columns and a parquet floor.
Fashion is one of the most distinctive sectors of the creative industries, playing a significant role in shaping contemporary culture and identity, as well as driving economic development. As a pillar of culture, it combines artistic activity with entrepreneurship, craftmanship and modern technologies, seamlessly integrating design, patternmaking, craftsmanship, production, communication, and business.

The Potential of Polish Fashion

The Polish fashion industry has significant potential for growth based on high-quality design, strong manufacturing capabilities and the growing recognition of domestic brands in foreign markets. This is confirmed by a report commissioned by the Play Sustain Foundation, which highlights that the foundations of Polish fashion lie in its manufacturing, design and entrepreneurial expertise.

For example, the clothing industry in Poland employs around 120,000 people, whilst the textile industry employs nearly 70,000. By 2030, demand is forecast to reach around 30,000 workers in the textile and clothing industry (Fashion and Innovative Textiles Sector. Results of the first edition of the survey). We are renowned for quality, high-standard production and the technological expertise of our designers.  This makes fashion not only an important sector of the creative economy, but also an effective tool for building Poland’s brand on the international stage. Despite its enormous export potential, Polish fashion has for years been portrayed as an ‘artistic hobby’ rather than a viable business.

Key Areas of Support and Action by the IPK

Today’s fashion industry continues to face a lack of systemic solutions and research, as well as a tendency to downplay its significance for the economy. That is why, at the Creative Industries Institute (IPK), we support its development through initiatives that strengthen professionalism, competitiveness and the presence of Polish design communities on international markets, while also creating a space for collaboration, knowledge sharing, and building lasting business relationships.

Main Areas in Which We Operate

  • digital transformation: we support the implementation of modern technologies in design and sales processes by organising projects such as FUTUREMODE – the European Fashion Innovation Hub
  • internationalisation: we promote Polish brands abroad and support them in entering international markets through, amongst other things, the EAST BOUND Polish fashion shows
  • skills development: we help raise qualifications and professionalise the fashion market through events such as Fashion Forum: Trends S/S 27
  • building of partnerships: we strengthen cooperation between designers, manufacturers, institutions and international partners by organising networking showrooms for Polish brands
  • planning industry development: we meet with industry stakeholders and gather expert opinions on the current state of Polish fashion; within our Fashion Programme Council, we address the most pressing issues and set the direction for the industry’s development.

Our Target Audiences

Our activities are primarily aimed at designers, fashion brand owners, craftspeople, and manufacturers. We collaborate with businesses, industry organisations, public institutions, academia, and industry experts, as well as domestic and international partners.

At the same time, we support initiatives that enhance the competitiveness of Polish fashion, promote innovation and create the conditions for long-term development of the entire ecosystem. We believe that the development of fashion is based on cooperation, the exchange of knowledge and experience, and the creation of conditions that foster innovation and strengthen the competitiveness of Polish brands.
